Worker's Compensation

What payroll do I report for Workers’ Compensation insurance?

Answer:

(1) The gross payroll, including bonuses, for all full and part time employees anticipated during the policy year.

(2) The owner’s gross pay if he or she is to be included as a covered employee. The Dentists Professional Plus Plan (DPPP) provides SAFECO's industry-recognized professional liability coverage plus business liability and business property coverage. A single policy protects it all!

What about independent contractor dentist, hygienist, janitorial, or other?

Answer: Include anticipated costs of the independent contractor or contractors for the policy year. This is the amount that is reflected on 1099s. In the event you have in your possession a current certificate of Workers’ Compensation insurance, covering the independent contractor or contractors, it is not necessary to list their payroll.

Should I elect to be covered as an employee?

Answer: Workers’ Compensation insurance includes medical, disability, and death benefits arising from on-the-job injuries or illness. Oklahoma law does not require the owner to be covered. It is your decision. If you elect not to be covered, we recommend you review your Medical, Disability, and Life insurance to confirm you are adequately protected.
